"Our mission at Aveda is to care for the world we live in, from the products we make to the ways in which we give back to society. At Aveda, we strive to set an example for environmental leadership and responsibility, not just in the world of beauty, but around the world."
-Horst Rechelbacher, Aveda founder
Here at Shear Success, we believe that Horst Rechelbacher is right about a business' responsibility to society. That is why we exclusively use Aveda products which are 95-99% naturally derived and we have a strict recycling program in place in the salon. As well as environmentally ethical salon operations, we are also active in several charity programs outside of the salon.
OIL SPILL RELIEF
Working with Matter of Trust, Shear Success Salons collected clean pantyhose and the salon's hair trimmings to make booms and mats to absorb the oil spills that wreak havoc on delicate ecosystems. The recycled-hair booms and mats are an incredibly efficient way to clean up an oil spill. Video of hair mats in action!
- One pound of hair soaks up one quart of oil in one minute!
- The hair mats created can be reused up to 100 times!
- When the hair mats are too old to reuse they are composted using oyster mushrooms or worms which break down the hair and oil into non-toxic usable soil.

BIKE MS - BENEFITS THE NATIONAL MS SOCIETY
For the last eight years Jill Stagg, owner of Shear Success Salons, has participated in the Bike MS150
charity bike ride. Jill has raised over $8,000 for The National MS Society for research for the treatment of Multiple Sclerosis,
a chronic often disabling disease which attacks the central nervous system. Collection bowls are located in both salons for the
month preceding the benefit ride for anyone who would like to donate to the cause.
